General Meeting Plan and Rules Meeting Plan: Part 1 – Presentation/Discussion of articles of choice - up to 50 minutes Participants present summaries of the articles they have read. Each participant has 2 minutes for presentation, other participants listen and take notes. Then other participants are welcome to ask questions and share their ideas connected to the article which has been presented. This discussion is up to 3 minutes for each article. Part 2 – Discussion of the common article of the week Participants discuss the common article of the week and related questions and share their own ideas. If time allows, there will be some vocabulary activities. For part 2 there will be specific worksheets each week. What you should do before each meeting: - read the common article of the week - study vocabulary from it in quizlet - do the exercises in google forms - look through the plan for our meeting - choose one article from any** issue of New Scientist https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/18HLPnbkr4YG3VeseoBuzeU_q9r1473n-?usp=sharing - read it, prepare to give a 2-minute presentation of it at the next meeting - you can also write a summary(see below) of your article of choice and share it in the corresponding chat https://vk.me/join/ASKKixLVVGudCe/tDL/Boh138vSiWMM8oTM= - do the writing task, assess the answers of other participants ** You mustn't choose the articles which have already been taken for common or individual reading. Before choosing you must check this list https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BjaJobmHtqDQVa0PlL4Y0OBkPhofNp9XfXTcyVbB-Bg/edit?usp=sharing every time, I have written the articles which we will read in the next 4 months, and I will add the ones which you choose. I will try to do it fast, but you should also check the common chat. When you choose an article, you must write its name to me and in the common chat, as well as the date of the issue when it was published, otherwise, someone else can take it. The first person who writes about taking any article takes it. How to Write a Summary of a New Scientist Article: - Read the whole text - Formulate the main topic(what is it about?) and idea(what did the author want to say?) of the whole text - Articles in New Scientist are usually divided into logical parts by the authors, but if they aren't, do it yourself - Summarize the main ideas of each section - Write a conclusion summarizing all main points
